At around 8 in the night yesterday, a UBC journalist known as Robert Kagolo was gunned down by a an LDU personnel at Bugembe jambe village in Wakiso District.
Speaking to the deputy spokesperson of police Kampala metropolitan Luke Oweyesigire says that Kagolo was allegedly returning from the village after his brother’s burial as he hurriedly entered his brother’s house which was being guarded by LDUs who were put to protect them suspecting that some people were following him as he knocked the gate with his motor vehicle.
He adds that the disagreements occurred afterwards between the LDU personnel and the deceased and that the police is carrying on. Further investigation on what exactly led to the shooting.
“As this incident happed, the victim Kagolo was rushed to St Joseph Hospital Wakiso where he succumbed to the injuries and his body yet to be taken to the city mortuary,” he said.
Oweyesigire further adds the shooter by name mamuli Rashid and his colleague were arrested to also help in the investigation.
Kagolo is said to be very humble and peaceful hardworking man who worked at UBC as a production personnel at Star tv and was most known by journalists for his role as the former Uganda Journalism Association(UJA) president.
