The million-dollar question on everyone’s mind has been about the whereabouts of Turkey based Ugandan blogger Fred Kajubi Lumbuye following his arrest last week. Uganda’s immigration department last week denied reports that the government critic was deported by authorities from Turkey and since their statement, there has been a big debate about his exact whereabouts.
In a separate briefing, Police Spokesperson Mr. Fred Enanga said Lumbuye was not in police custody yet although he is being investigated on 15 different case files by Ugandan authorities, the charges include spreading harmful propaganda, inciting the public to protest by sharing videos on his platform among other cyber related crimes.
According to reliable sources, Lumbuye will remain in Turkey custody for the next 20days until a decision is taken, we can confirm that Ugandan government is doing everything it takes to bring him home in Uganda as a message to other social media misusers. Sources indicate that it’s not just Lumbuye the only Ugandan in detention, and Lumbuye’s arrest had nothing to do with his political crimes in Ugandan, a source added.
Lumbuye is currently under detention at Kurkoy Immigration Detention in Turkey, Kurtkoy is a village in the district of Bilecik, in Bilecik Province, Turkey. According to sources, Lumbuye will remain in custody for 20 days in Turkey until a decision is taken. Speaking two days ago, Turkey ambassador to Uganda Kerem Alp said his country does not interfere in the internal affairs of other states and will not interfere in Uganda’s regarding Lumbuye.
