The number of unclaimed babies in various districts in Eastern Uganda is on an increase following the disappearance of their fathers upon completion of the construction of the Soroti Parisa road.
Agnes Igoye the deputy coordinator of the anti-human trafficking coordination office against trafficking persons under the ministry of internal affairs says during the tour of Soroti, Parisa, Kumi, Busia the young mother’s confessed that they engaged with the road constructors who included Ugandans and Chinese but currently cannot be traced.
Igoye appealed to those who were employed in Soroti, Parisa, Kumi, Busia to go back and claim for their babies or else their children will end up being trafficked in major cities in towns.
“If you know that your a constructor or support staff who engaged in unprotected sex in Soroti, Parisa, Kumi please go and cross-check, these include Chinese and Ugandan constructors or if you know a relative, a classmate who constructed those roads please tell them to go and cross-check and do some DNAs”, Igoye said.
Igoye also noted that while in Soroti, they found one thousand teenage girls in Kamuda sub-county who are pregnant.
