Several landlords in real estates industry have vowed to challenge the landlords and tenant bill in case nothing has changed before it turns into law.
The bill is still under parliament with strong articles which include; Limiting landlords from charging rent fees in foreign currency and burring them from lockup tenants incase of any rent that instead run to court of law
The bill in it’s current form also orders foreign arrest of landlord incase he /she annoys a tenant which many landlords term to be discriminatory.
Speaking at a press conference Karungi Moses Kirumira founder of Karungi plaza said the bill is surrounded with a lot of loop holes that require much attention before being passed into law.
Karungi explains why rent fees are charged in dollars and says limiting them will hinder the entire real estate industry.
” We as landlords we have also been borrowing money in dollars to acquire these properties like this one which I have , I bought it from an Indian in dollars
if I had not charge my rent in dollars how would I be able to pay up my loan obligations which are in dollars” Karungi explains.
