Together with fellow leaders from the I have attended the General Court Martial at Makindye to stand in solidarity with a team of over 30 of our comrades including Olivia Lutaaya, Ssegujja Rashid, Sharif Kalanzi, and Yasin Ssekitoleko (Machete).
These NUP supporters have been publicly produced in Court for the first time in over six months since their abduction on trumped up charges of terrorism and alleged possession of firearms.
Although our legal team filed before the Court Martial a formal application for the release of these comrades on bail, the State denied knowledge of the same and instead claimed that ‘investigations’ are still going on.
Nevertheless, the bail application will be heard on 15th February 2022. We reiterate our demand for the unconditional release of these and other prisoners detained for no other ‘fault’ but their political opinion.
