Gulu hospital is the regional referral for Acholi sub-region. Last year, the hospital’s long-serving senior paediatrician, Dr Milly Grace Arach who was admitted at the hospital’s ICU died due to a shortage of oxygen resulting from power blackouts. This is what happens when we don’t pay attention to our country’s healthcare.
Recently, some Ugandans in the diaspora demonstrated over the continued flying of senior Gov’t officials abroad for treatment at a huge cost to the tax payer. Unfortunately, some leaders have decided to tribalise this issue, saying Speaker Oulanyah was targeted simply because he is from Acholi sub-region imagine!!
Last year, there were similar protests in Boston-USA when Hon Ronald Kibuule went there for treatment. We didn’t see anyone saying he was targeted simply because he is a Muganda.
Also, we’ve not seen these very leaders speak out on the need to improve their regional referral, Gulu hospital.
What’s imperative in all this is that we need to improve healthcare in our country for the sake of all Ugandans. That said, we wish Rt Hon Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah a quick recovery.
