Weeks after the Government had entered into an outrageous agreement with Uganda Vinci Coffee Company Ltd, some well intentioned Ugandans leaked it to us.
We discussed it extensively in the Shadow Cabinet and later assigned our Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Dr Abed Bwanika to take the lead in petitioning Parliament to check the fraud that the Ministry of Finance had committed us to.
Hon Bwanika was backed by Shadow Ministers, Hon Namugga Gorreth (Science, Innovation and Technology), Hon Joyce Bagala (Information and Anti-corruption) and Kalungu East MP, Hon Francis Katabaazi Katongole.
I thank them for ably executing the assignment that we were able to first of all convince the Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives that the Vinci Coffee agreement is bad for Uganda and the Ugandan Coffee farmer.
The bipartisan support the Committee report received was most humbling and I want to thank colleague MPs for standing on the side of the Ugandan farmer.
